We have lots of exciting things planned for this half term.
English:
In English, we are working on writing a non-chronological report on Hedgehogs, following a visit from Laura, a volunteer from a hedgehog rescue sanctuary.
Maths:
In maths, we have been measurement and length. We've learnt about mm, cm and m, as well as how to convert between these units of measure and find the perimeter of 2D shapes. Next, we're moving onto learning about unit and non-unit fractions.
Curriculum/Science:
Curriculum is focused on answering our overarching question: How are animals designed to survive?
Each week will focus on answering sub-questions to support our learning journey:
1. What do animals including humans, need to survive?
Task: Make an information poster, explaining the 5 main things that an animal needs to survive.
2. Why do we need a balanced diet?
Task: Design a healthy plate, including something from every food group.
Challenge: Can you explain why we need each type of nutrient to be healthy?
3. How do animals survive in the wild?
Task: Watch an episode of David Attenborough's Blue Planet. Make notes on the different ways in which animals have adapted (changed to live in their environment).
4. What is the circle of life?
Task: Draw 2 food chains, one for land and one for creatures of the sea. What similarities and differences can you see?
5. Should all animals be free?
6. What are the benefits of captivity?
7. Are you what you eat?
8. Why do we need different types of teeth?
We're also planning a trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park, to deepen our understanding further.
IT:
Every Thursday, in IT (Internet Technology), we are developing our understanding of coding. Pupils are able to put their coding skills into practise using PurpleMash.
PE:
In PE (Physical Education), we are lucky enough to be furthering our skills in Football and Gymnastics. We have PE with Mr Walters on a Tuesday morning and on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Greatorex. Remember to bring your PE kits and have your hair tied up, so that you are ready and raring to go.
