School Games Mark - Silver Award

The School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels.

We are delighted to inform you that we have received a Silver Award for our commitment to sport / competition development within school.

Carlton will be 'Going for Gold' next year!

Awards for All Grant

I am delighted to inform you that our school has been awarded a grant to allow rugby league to be taught in school for the next 18 weeks. Pupils from Y1 to Y6 will have the opportunity to work with qualified rugby league coaches and current players to develop their understanding of the sport. Each key stage will receive 6 weeks of coaching during PE sessions as well as having the opportunity to further enhance their skills during 6 weeks of after school clubs. At the end of each block of coaching, a rugby league festival will be held at Carlton Outwood where pupils will compete against other schools in the area.

Not only does the grant allow us to have coaching in school during PE sessions, it also allows us to run our after school clubs free of charge for those 6 weeks and receive specific sporting equipment to continue rugby league coaching after the initiative has finished.

The coaching during PE sessions and after school clubs will take place over the following terms:

Coaching / After School Clubs

Term

Spring 1 (Wednesday)

Spring 2 (Friday)

Summer 1 (TBC)

Year Group(s)

Year 5 / 6

Year 3 / 4

Year 1 / 2

We will also have the opportunity for pupils to play ‘invasion’ type games during dinner time when our coaches are in school. These will last for 30mins and be on a rota so that all children in each key stage will have the opportunity to spend some time with them. Children will be able to sign up for a dinner session at the start of the week, allowing parents time to make sure that they have suitable footwear for that day.
