Some key Holly information:

  • Our PE days this year are Tuesday and Thursday.

  • * Maths homework is sent out every Friday.

  • * English home work will be Read Write Inc sounds sent out every Friday, unless your child is no longer on the Read Write Inc programme then they will be sent a punctuation or grammar activity.

  • * Spellings for the week will be sent home Monday and children will be assessed on then on Friday.

In English our writing has two focuses: narrative and instructional. The Holly’s have learnt the story ‘The Pirates next door’ and are able to retell the story using actions.

If you would like to read our class book, please see the web link below.

We are currently writing our own pirate stories based on ‘The Pirates next door.’ Our stories will have a setting, a pirate character, a problem and finally a solution. Once children have planned each section of their story, they will write them up on pirate paper.

In Maths, Holly class are learning a range of mathematical concepts depending on which Maths group they are in. Please see below for the areas of Maths they are learning this half term.

Topic Work

In Art we have started creating collages of the different parts of the pirate story. In Science Holly’s will be learning about what a pirate needs to survive and basic human needs. We will look at the different parts of our bodies and senses (nose -> smell). In Geography, just like pirates, children will learn how to use co-ordinates to read maps. They will use and apply these skills as well as being able to use compass points.
